Application Process

Apply

Submit your application for employment online and follow the prompts. You will be required to create an account with a user name and password to submit your application. This feature will allow you to view the status of your application. If the position you are seeking is not currently available submit a Job Interest Card which will allow you to receive email notification when applications become available for listed positions.

After completing the application process, applicant testing information will be mailed to each individual who applies for the Park Police Officer Candidate position. Applicants for Park Police Lateral Entry positions will receive information regarding orientation.

Applicant Test

All applicants must possess a valid form of identification and the letter of testing when checking in for testing. Applicants that apply for the Park Police Officer Candidate position are required to take the Park Police Applicant Test and must achieve a passing score. If an applicant is unsuccessful in passing the Park Police Applicant Test, the applicant may reply in 6 months to retake the test. The Park Police Applicant Test is a video based test that focuses on logic, problem solving, reading comprehension, and judgmental decision making.

Orientation

After successfully passing the Park Police Applicant Test, applicants will attend a Park Police Orientation to begin the background process. Orientation will provide additional information about the hiring process, background process and answer any questions applicants have regarding potential employment with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police.

Physical Requirement Test

The Maryland-National Capital Park Police in conjunction with the Prince George's County Police Department has implemented a new fitness requirement for all new Police Officer Applicants. Applicants will be required to by the Maryland-National Capital Park Police Department to participate in the Prince George's County Police Department's Pre-Employment Applicant Physical Requirement Test (APRT). Applicants must successfully meet all minimum scores to continue with the background process.

Elements

The APRT consists of the below elements:
  • Push-Ups (Muscular Endurance) - push-ups performed in one minute, based on age and gender
  • Sit-Ups (Muscular Endurance) - bent leg sit-ups preformed in one minute, based on age and gender
  • 1.5 Mile Run (Cardiovascular) - preformed in less time allowed, based on age and gender

Background Check

Background interviews will be conducted. The background and hiring process takes from 4 to 6 months. However, in some instances, it can be shorter or longer.
