Celebration Overview
Did you know that this year marks 40 years since the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition declared the month of May as National Physical Fitness & Sports Month? Join us as we celebrate the month and advocate for healthier lifestyles by participating in one of our fitness or sports programs this month!
M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County is committed to helping residents get up & get fit by offering a variety of free and low-cost sports and fitness programs this May! Increasing activity levels has immediate positive impacts on your health, both physically and mentally. It can control pre-existing health conditions, help maintain a healthy weight, and reduce anxiety, blood pressure, and risks for chronic diseases.
Our “live more, play more” philosophy is for all ages. The Department seeks to connect you and your whole family to fun and quality life-enriching sports and fitness opportunities year-round. If you haven’t joined in yet, May is the perfect time. During National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, let us all strive to move more together. Your path to wellness and fun is only one click away!

Program Descriptions
Fitness
If you’re looking for your new favorite fitness activity to help you get up & get fit, look no further! Indoor cycling, High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), weight training, rock climbing, and so much more are at the tip of your fingers this month. We have fitness activities for each age group and the entire family. Try one or try them all on your path to wellness.
Health Education & Nutrition Programs
Engage in fun, interactive workshops to benefit your overall health all month long. Whether you are looking to add variety while you snack or want to learn more information about fueling your body to get up & get fit, you can participate in education sessions with trained professionals. You will learn everyday tips for healthy meal choices, discuss the latest updates in health and nutrition topics, and learn how to make simple changes to benefit your mental and physical health.
Outdoor Adventures
Explore the parks and natural areas of Prince George’s County this May! Participate in a hike, bike ride, wetlands tour, or kayak paddle Enjoy new scenery and activities while reaping the benefits of exercising in nature.
Senior Programs
Come out and explore all the activities designed for our active aging community. Show off your rhythm while line dancing or join us as we celebrate Cinco de Mayo! From the fitness room to the dance floor, we have activities to suit everyone’s lifestyle.
Sports Programs
Get up & get fit by participating in fun and rewarding sports activities. Join us for a variety of sports clinics and workshops and open times including basketball, hockey, Futsal, pickleball, and tennis. Participants will be introduced to the core skills of each sport from our professional instructors and learn more about future programs.
