M-NCPPC OFFICES CLOSED FRIDAY, JUNE 18 IN HONOR

OF JUNETEENTH NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY

Prince George’s County Offices Closed

RIVERDALE, MD-- In observance of the new Juneteenth National Independence Day, The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is closing tomorrow, Friday, June 18, 2021. This day is monumental to U.S. history as the day recognized for the end of slavery. M-NCPPC Chair Elizabeth M. Hewlett and M-NCPPC Vice-Chair Casey Anderson made the decision today after President Joe Biden declared Juneteenth a federal holiday. This decision also follows the guidance of the State of Maryland’s decision to close state offices, Prince George’s County Government, which passed a bill last October recognizing the day as a holiday, and Montgomery County Government.

M-NCPPC is proud to recognize the importance of Juneteenth and will host events honoring Juneteenth in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties. To learn more visit pgparks.com/Juneteenth and montgomeryparks.org/parks-picks-juneteenth/.
