Frightening Fall Festivities

 

Riverdale, MD – All over the county, the Department of Parks and Recreation is getting into the spooky spirit. Here are some of the most thrilling tricks and treats around for all ages:

WHAT: Halloween Legends, Tales & Movie Night

WHEN: Saturday, October 13, 2018, from 6 PM - 9 PM

WHERE: Marietta House Museum, 5626 Bell Station Road Glenn Dale, MD 20769

COST: Resident/ Non-Resident Cost: $15


Please join us as we discuss the tales & legends of the October season! Not for the faint of heart! Enjoy refreshments and a Halloween cauldron punch. A vintage Hollywood “scarefest” movie will conclude the evening. Reservations required. Space is limited.


WHAT: Xtreme Teens: Harloteen Bash

WHEN: Saturday, October 13, 2018, from 6 PM – 10 PM

WHERE: Upper Marlboro Community Center, 5400 Marlboro Race Track Rd Upper Marlboro, MD 20772

AUDIENCE: Ages 10-17

COST: Resident: $5 Non-Resident Cost: $7; but admission is free for teens with a valid youth M-NCPPC ID!

 

Step right up for a hauntingly twisted carnival night, full of fright, food, and fun! Participants are encouraged to wear black and white attire or costume for a chance to win a delightfully delectable prize! And for those teens that are brave enough to undertake it, wear a splash of red for a heart-pounding experience.

WHAT: Xtreme Teens: Six Flags Fright Fest!

WHEN: Friday, October 19, 2018, from 5 PM – 11 PM (Bus leaves promptly at 5PM and returns by 11PM)

WHERE: Berwyn Heights Community Center, 6200 Pontiac Street Berwyn Heights, MD 20740

AUDIENCE: 10-17 (Six Flags recommends age 13 and older)

COST: Resident/Non-Resident Cost: $59.99/per person

 

Teens, we dare you to join us as we head to Six Flags for their ultimate Fright Fest! Offering plenty of places to spook your soul, Fright Fest, includes several haunted houses and scare zones located throughout the park. Your worst nightmares are waiting for you at every turn. As the day grows deeper into the night, the ghastly beasts are released upon you to cast down a frighteningly haunting episode! BEWARE! There is no place to hide. Don’t get left behind ... you may never catch up again!

 

WHAT: Baden's Trunk & Treat

WHEN: Friday, October 19, 2018, from 7 PM – 9 PM

AUDIENCE: 10 and under w/ families

COST: Resident: $5 in advance $7 at the door; Non-Resident: $7 in advance $9 at the door

 

A fun evening for Goblins 10 and under. Costume and Family Trunk Decorating Contests w/ prizes, rides, s'mores, hay ride, spooky spaces and 'trunking'!


WHAT: Halloweenie Camp Fire

WHEN: Friday, October 19, 2018 from 7 PM – 8:30 PM
WHERE: Mount Rainier Nature/Recreation Center, 4701 31st Place, Mount Rainier, MD 20712

AUDIENCE: Ages 5-10

COST: Resident: $3 / Non-Resident: $4


Enjoy a campfire and roast marshmallows while listening to engaging stories and playing games!


WHAT: Haunted Trails
WHEN: Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 6 PM – 9 PM

AUDIENCE: All Ages

Join us for our annual Haunted Trails and a spectacularly scary scene! Will have a glow-n-dark egg hunt, face painting, escape room, mad scientist room, and arts and craft among our fun-filled events! Don't worry, we'll have some fun things in store for those who are faint of heart, too! See you there!


WHAT: The Great Jack O’ Lantern Campfire
WHEN: Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 7 PM – 8:30 PM
WHERE: Darnall's Chance House Museum, 14800 Governor Oden Bowie Dr., Upper Marlboro, MD 20772

AUDIENCE: Recommended for ages 6 and older

COST: $5/person (cash only)


A mad scientist has taken over the Great Jack O’ Lantern Campfire! The scientist hates all things Halloween and is threatening to cancel the holiday using his cunning intellect. Can you help save Halloween? If you think you can, then put on your lab coat and goggles, and join the spooky fun! Bask in the warmth of the fall campfire, roast marshmallows, and enjoy popcorn and hot cider. Listen to haunted Halloween tales, see a dazzling display of hand-carved illuminated jack o ‘lanterns, and more! Kid-friendly activities include a spooky science show, a pumpkin hunt, and roasting marshmallows. Don't miss this howling good time! Rain date is Sunday, October 21 at 6 pm.

Join us down on the farm for an autumn celebration. Enjoy cider, crafts, games, demonstrations, a costume contest, hayrides, and more!

AUDIENCE: Ages 10 -17

COST: FREE with a valid youth M-NCPPC ID!

 

Come dressed as your scary best! We'll host contests for the best costume and the worst-dressed people. This is an event you won't want to miss as we'll have a live DJ, your favorite foods and loads of fun activities throughout the day. We DARE you to come out for an awesome time!


WHAT: Halloween Jamboree
WHEN: Friday, October 26, 2018 from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
WHERE: Oakcrest Community Center, 1300 Capitol Heights Boulevard Capitol Heights, MD 20743

AUDIENCE: Ages 6-12

COST: Resident: $5 / Non-Resident: $7


Trick-or-Treat! Bring your kids out for a fun evening of face painting, skating, music, and light refreshments. Remember to grab a goodie bag on your way out!


WHAT: Tails & Trails Boo-tac-u-lar
WHEN: Wednesday, October 31, 2018 from 6 PM – 8:30 PM
WHERE: Tucker Road Community Center, 1771 Tucker Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744

AUDIENCE: Ages 12 and under

COST: Resident: $5 / Non-Resident: $7


Enjoy a fun-filled evening riding on a haunted trail, listening to ghost stories around a fire, playing games, and participating in a costume contest with prizes.


WHAT: Halloween Festival & Costume Party
WHEN: Wednesday, October 31, 2018 from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
WHERE: Suitland Community Center, 5600 Regency Lane, Forestville, MD 20747

AUDIENCE: Ages 3-12

COST: Resident: $3 / Non-Resident: $4


Come dressed in your favorite costume and join the parade at our annual Halloween Festival. Enjoy carnival games, candy bag giveaways, and a trunk or treat adventure. This is a safe alternative to door-to-door trick or treating.
