[ARCHIVED] The Employees’ Retirement System Wishes Edward Sarkar Happy Retirement

Edward Sarkar 1

Edward Sarkar retired January 1, 2019 from the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission Employees’ Retirement System (ERS) after nearly thirty-one years. Edward was the longest serving employee in the history of the ERS.

Edward’s knowledge and drive propelled him quickly from Accountant to Technical Services Manager with both financial and information technology achievements including implementation of the ERS’ CYMA accounting system; development of the first retiree database; and, automation of the balance sheet, income statements and budget versus actual reports. Edward was instrumental in the ERS receiving its first GFOA Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting which established a long-term best practice that is continued to this day.

Edward undertook an opportunity with the Commission to utilize his computer expertise resulting in invaluable contributions that included implementation of the first Storage Area Network; management of a complex Storage Area Network environment with frequent upgrades to support the growing demand for storage from 9G to 248G; and, creation of an environment and process to restore files as far back as three years within a four-hour window.

The ERS extends wholehearted appreciation and gratitude to Edward Sarkar for his invaluable contributions and years of service and extends best wishes to him for a well-deserved and enjoyable retirement filled with health, happiness and prosperity.
