M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation Presents
Shakespeare in the Parks 2020 Macbeth: Radio Drama

Riverdale, MD - For more than 20 years, The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Department of Parks and Recreation has presented free, entertaining, and accessible productions of the work of the greatest playwright of the English language at parks and arts centers throughout Prince George’s County! Each summer Shakespeare in the Parks tours a professional, family-friendly production of one of Shakespeare’s plays throughout the County, making great theatre available to everyone.

Shakespeare in the Parks 2020 is an exciting virtual experience! The Tragedy of Macbeth, presented as an hour-long audio drama, set among the gangs of New York of the 1860s, a turbulent time in the midst of the American Civil War, with domestic unrest in the streets of New York City. The classic story stays the same: the tragic hero Macbeth stumbles upon three witches in the sewers, who fill his head with the prophecy of being the "king hereafter." Murder, mayhem, and a grab for power consume the Macbeths, as they rise and fall during their short reign. Free to download and enjoy. Appropriate for middle school ages and above.

From a hammock in your backyard, or a seat on your balcony, to an M-NCPPC park location near you, enjoy Prince George’s Shakespeare in the Parks’ latest production, Macbeth: Radio Drama.

The Department of Parks and Recreation celebrates the arts and embraces the cultural diversity of Prince George’s County and values the contributions of the artists and arts organizations who make this an electrifying and inspiring place to live. M-NCPPC’s wide variety of arts programs and services let residents explore visual art, music, dance, theater, and literary arts as enthusiastic spectators or eager students, and artists are encouraged to share their work with the community in many ways. M-NCPPC manages art centers that offer exhibitions of emerging and established artists, dance and music concerts, performances for children and families, teas, festivals, and classes in the visual and performing arts. We encourage youth to explore their own creativity and provided community-based arts organizations to rent our spaces for performance and exhibitions.

The M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation delivers an award-winning park system through progressive, innovative leadership and a commitment to the community and the environment in Prince George’s County.
