M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County Announces
Reopening of Additional Facilities
RIVERDALE, MD – The Department of Parks and Recreation, part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, announces the reopening of additional facilities and amenities on Monday, May 24, to provide the community activities to live more, play more. Registration for these offerings begins Thursday, May 20 at pgparksdirect.com.
“We are pleased to continue reopening facilities, at limited capacity, and expanding services with the guidance of the County Executive and public health officials,” says M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation Director, Bill Tyler. “We welcome the community back to our facilities and programs in a way that prioritizes their safety and comfort.”
Facilities reopening on May 24, include:
- Community Centers – Kentland, Deerfield Run, Langley Park, Good Luck, Prince George's Plaza, Largo/Kettering/Perrywood, John E. Howard, Palmer Park, Bowie, North Forestville, Patuxent, Temple Hills, Hillcrest Heights, and Marlow Heights
- Aquatics/Sports/Fitness Facilities - Allentown Splash, Tennis, and Fitness Park (fitness room and multi-purpose rooms), Fairland Sports and Aquatics Complex (fitness room and multi-purpose rooms), Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex (learning center and multi-purpose rooms), Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Complex, and the Sugar Ray Leonard Boxing Center
- Museums - Surratt House, Riversdale House, Montpelier House, Marietta House, and Darnall's Chance
- Dinosaur Park

New! Southern Regional Aquatic Wellness Center
The Department is thrilled to open doors at its newest facility, The Southern Regional Aquatic Wellness Center (SRAWC) in Fort Washington, MD. The Center includes a reception area, three bodies of water: a warm water pool, leisure/lap pool, and spa. The facility also boasts a viewing area, wet/dry multipurpose room, two family changing areas, locker/restrooms, staff offices, vending area, and complementing support facilities. Current usage is by registration only. Walk-ins will not be accepted. Reservations are required for all swim sessions through Parks Direct. Capacity is limited.
Outdoor pools will reopen to the public on Saturday, May 29, 2021. Advance reservations will still be required through Parks Direct (at least 2 hours ahead of the swim session start time). With the ability to open our outdoor pools comes the responsibility to open safely and under COVID-19 guidelines. The health and safety of our staff and guests visiting our pools remains our highest priority. The Department is taking precautions as directed by local government and health officials for the safety of our staff and patrons.

We offer assorted camp, clubhouse, playtime and STEAM programs that fit the imagination of your child, and your needs. Wonderful World of Watkins
The Train, Carousel, and Mini-Golf area at Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro begin Summer hours of operation on May 29. Advance sales are not available. Purchases are made on-site each evening and are good for that date only. All major credit cards are accepted. Ticket sales end 15 minutes prior to closing for the train and carousel, and 30 minutes prior to closing for miniature golf. Face coverings are required. Temperature checks will be administered for indoor activities.
