M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation Opens
New Park in Capitol Heights
Riverdale, MD – The Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), is proud to announce a recently opened new park for the residents of Capitol Heights. On June 16, the Rollins Ave. Park opening welcomed a brand new 6-acre development with new amenities for the community to enjoy, including:
- a tennis and pickleball court
- a full basketball court
- picnic pavilions with tables and grills
- two playgrounds – for preschoolers and school-aged youth
- garden plots for local gardeners to grow produce in 6 raised planters and 10 in-ground beds
- a dog park featuring double-gate entry, concrete trough for water play, drinking fountain, fire hydrant, K9 brand artificial turf, and multiple seating locations
- a connecting loop walking trail which connects all park amenities
“Projects like Rollins Ave. Park are inspired by input and on-going support from residents through community meetings, grassroots efforts, and public forums,” states Department of Parks and Recreation Director, Bill Tyler. “We hope the community will thoroughly enjoy this beautiful development they helped bring to fruition,” Tyler concluded.
Rollins Ave. Park encompasses 19-acres of woodland bounded by the Watts Branch Stream Valley, Rollins Avenue, and residential neighborhoods.
