Durant Gives Back to the Department of Parks and Recreation
By helping others follow in his footsteps
Capitol Heights, MD – Kevin Durant invests in the community that invested in him – to the tune of nearly $60,000. The basketball star’s Charity Foundation partnered with Nike to update and improve the outdoor basketball courts at the M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Seat Pleasant Activity Center, where Durant played as a child.
Project discussions began in April 2016, and now the new courts are ready for their grand unveiling! The activity center now boasts two newly renovated regulation sized courts and a retaining wall. (Attached to this release are before and after pictures of the courts.)
At the ribbon cutting celebration, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County leaders will address a crowd of more than 400 Seat Pleasant Elementary School students and staff members. Local government leaders and Kevin Durant’s mother Wanda will say a few words as well. Attendees will receive free t-shirts from Nike, along with other giveaways.
Students from Seat Pleasant Elementary School’s mentoring groups (Little L.A.D.I.E.S. – Learning to Accomplish Dreams by Investing in Education and Self; G.E.N.T.S. – Galvanizing and Empowering Natural Talents) will participate in an on-court basketball drills following the remarks and ribbon cutting.

The basketball courts at the Seat Pleasant Activity Center have unique importance to Kevin Durant. As a child, he honed his skills and stoked his interest in the game by playing on those courts year-round. Sometimes, Kevin would sleep behind the curtain in the gym because he did not want to go home after school; he just wanted to play basketball.
